“Here’s how Pa.’s hospitals are doing their part to fight opioid abuse”

This op-ed from Andy Carter, president and CEO of the The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, provides a valuable perspective on how organizations can work together to achieve more — and why more collective action is needed.

“Pennsylvania has become an epicenter of the opioid crisis. According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, during 2016, Pennsylvania coroners and medical examiners reported 4,642 drug-related overdose deaths, an increase of 37 percent from 2015.

During 2016, approximately 13 people died of a drug-related overdose each day. One overdose death is one too many, and The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) and our members are deeply concerned.
